Baltimore Medical Centre. (September 2016). Ending Self Stigma for PTSD (ESS-P).
https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT02734212
Baltimore Medical Clinic has done many beneficial study’s in the past, with their team of qualified researchers, and in 2016, they conducted a psychiatric clinical study on self-stigma in PTSD. A group of war veterans, of various ages, were thoroughly interviewed first, on their experience with PTSD symptoms since they have been released form duty. They found that all of the veterans suffered from mild to severe symptoms of PTSD, and 100% feared the stigma around the disorder. Many of the veterans felt that they had internalized the societal stigma imposed by the fear, which extremely hindered their ability to get help. The only way to subside the effects and gain control of the disorder is to seek psychiatric help as soon as possible. Otherwise, the effects can worsen over time and lead to the substance abuse and suicide attempts that are so rampant amongst PTSD-afflicted individuals. The study recommends that mental health care be available immediately to decommissioned veterans so that the PTSD symptoms can be prevented as soon as possible. Because PTSD has no cure, a rehabilitative approach is the best way avoid the devastating effects of post-traumatic stress.
